PROGRAMMES

NORGIL

NORGIL is an acronym standing for Norwegian Ground Infrastructure for Link 16. This is a joint programme involving several Thales organisations. TCF, TAO and TRS are contributing partners in addition to Thales Norway.

NORGIL will continue to exist and operate in Norway. The objective is for the systems to interact in support of both NATO and national requirements.

FGB – Fixed Ground Buffer
The Ground Buffer represents the gateway between the Link 16 ground network (NORGIL) and the Link 16 radio network. The main component is the MIDS LVT Link 16 terminal. The Ground Buffers are connected to the other system components via a secure IP service provided by NDDN (Norwegian Defence Digital Network) or TADKOM (the Norwegian Army’s Tactical Communication System).

MGB – Mobile Ground Buffer
The MGB is functionally identical to the FGB. It will be installed in a shelter suitable for deployment in Norway or out-of-area.

NMC – Network Management Capability
The NMC supports the management of the Link 16 radio network as well as MIDS terminals in the Ground Buffers.

MIU – MASE Interface Unit (MASE = Multi Aegis Site Emulator)
This represents the primary C2 capability served by NORGIL. It comprises a SkyView C2 subsystem co-located with the legacy MASE system. MIU receives radar plots from MASE.
